Little Hands on the Farm Volunteers

August 13th - 23rd, 2026
Des Moines, IA

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Little Hands on the Farm. This exhibit is designed for children ages 2-10 to teach them the importance of agriculture and how it affects their daily lives. Volunteers receive admission to the Fair, parking and a Little Hands on the Farm volunteer t-shirt for their four-hour commitment. Each group volunteering will need a group leader; this person will be the point of contact for the Fair and will receive all volunteer materials including admission tickets, parking passes and t-shirts. Those material packets will be mailed beginning in mid-July.

To help safeguard all persons in attendance to the Iowa State Fair and pursuant to Iowa law (Iowa Sex Offender Registry 692A.113), the Iowa State Fair will be conducting background checks on all volunteers 18 and older. Information obtained will be handled by the Iowa State Fair in a confidential matter.

If you have any questions, please contact Emily Wynn at 515-401-1544 or ewynn@iowastatefair.org.

Volunteer Background Check and Authorization and Release

The safety of all in attendance at the Iowa State Fair is the most important consideration in the appointment of a volunteer for the Iowa State Fair. To help safeguard all persons and pursuant to Iowa law, the Iowa State Fair will now be conducting background checks on all volunteers. Information obtained will be handled by the Iowa State Fair in a confidential matter.
I hereby give my permission for the Iowa State Fair and its agents to obtain information relating to my criminal history pursuant to Iowa law (Iowa Sex Offender Registry 692A.113). I understand that this record will be used, in part, to determine my eligibility for a volunteer position with the Iowa State Fair. I also understand that as long as I remain a volunteer with the Iowa State Fair, background checks may be repeated at any time.
I hereby release and hold harmless the State of Iowa, the Iowa State Fair Authority; the Iowa State Fair Board; and their agents, officers and employees from any responsibility whatsoever against any and all causes of action, liabilities, and claims resulting from the investigation of my background in connection with my application to be a volunteer.
I understand that the Iowa State Fair has agreed that, if the Iowa State Fair chooses not to extend an offer of volunteer position to me based upon the information obtained pursuant to this authorization I will be notified of this result via telephone or written correspondence.
